libra

I’m getting fat; that’s what you see on the screenshot to the right — my gradual move from chubby to portly. But never mind the numbers, look at the pretty graph!

If you’ve ever read The Hacker’s Diet, this graph should be instantly recognizable. Each point shows the weight for a given day, while the trend line lets you see if you’re gaining or losing weight.

When I use my “main” PC, I have a homebrew solution for creating and maintaining this graph. But I’ve had to find a temporary solution for Android, and Libra is it.

It’s a beautifully simple app, very true to the spirit of The Hacker’s Diet. You can create a shortcut on your homescreen that brings you right into the data entry screen, so you just tap the shortcut every morning, feed in your weight for the day and hit OK, and then you get to see your progress (or lack thereof) on the graph.

The app remembers the previous day’s weigh-in, which makes it easy to enter today’s weight (as they’re usually not too different). The graph is zoomable and scrollable, and most importantly, you can export the data to CSV so you’re not locked into the app.

If you ever need to track your weight using an Android device for any period of time, Libra is one excellent solution.

rhapsody wp7Rhapsody continues strengthening its position as a go-to music streaming service in the U.S. In the wake of offering an extended 60-day trial of its services, Rhapsody has now launched a Windows Phone 7 app.

It’s very similar to the Rhapsody apps for other mobile OSes, with the obvious exception of a Metroesque interface. You can search for and stream songs, access your playlists, and browse through various genres and recommendations. Rhapsody Radio is also available for streaming, and you can pull up detailed information about the current artist with a single tap.

Subscribing to Rhapsody will run you $9.99 per month, but the two-month trial will give you plenty of time to decide whether or not it’s the right fit for your streaming music needs — whether you own a BlackBerry, iPhone, Android, or Windows Phone 7 device.

The UFC’s light heavyweight division has been a revolving door at the top. The promotion’s glamour division hasn’t had that guy to pitch to the mainstream because no one has been able to defend the title. Jon Jones may change that.

If Jones can put together a long title reign, the champ’s starpower is limitless. He’s a smart cookie and savvy. You’ll see that on "The Tonight Show" this evening. Jones is a guest along with Kirstie Alley. From some early photos he’s posted via Twitter, it doesn’t look like he’s nervous.

Jones is pictured with former "Cheers" star Kirstie Alley and Jay Leno, the host of the show.

PS3 controlled using Kinect

Microsoft’s Kinect, the fastest-selling gadget ever, has now been hacked to work with the PlayStation 3.

The Kinect isn’t directly plugged into a PS3, though (that would be too awesome). Instead, it’s plugged into a conventional PC laptop, where PrimeSense’s first-party drivers are used to interface with Kinect. The data from Kinect is then converted into a format that the PS3 can understand, and output directly to the console using using diyps3controller, which lets the laptop USB controller interface with the PS3.

There’s a video of the developer logging in and playing Killzone 3 on his PS3 using the Kinect after the break. Well, attempting to play Killzon 3, we should say. It seems like the hack has a little way to go before it’s actually usable…

Brock Lesnar makes a ‘Friend’

Before teaching Jimmy Fallon about rear naked chokes, Brock Lesnar met up with David Schwimmer, also known as Ross Gellar on "Friends."

Schwimmer tweeted, "UFC 130 perhaps? … If @DCBROCKLESNAR loses 175 pounds and drops down to my weight class, it’s over. God I hope he knows I’m kidding."

This isn’t Schwimmer’s first brush with large men from the UFC. When starring on "Friends," he was part of the episode that featured Bruce Buffer, Big John McCarthy and Tank Abbott. Monica Gellar’s boyfriend, played by Jon Favreau, had dreams of being an "ultimate fighter," despite being thrown around the Octagon by Abbott.

Perhaps Schwimmer was having flashbacks of that episode when staring into the eyes of Lesnar. Or perhaps the two just commiserated on being TV stars, as the Lesnar-coached edition of "The Ultimate Fighter" starts Wednesday night on Spike.

Stan Lee-animated TV series/ comic book will follow a crime-fighting ex-governor.
By Gil Kaufman

It sounded like an April Fool’s gag that came a few days early: Former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger would follow up his two terms as the state’s boss with an animated series penned by comic legend Stan Lee in which he plays a, yes, crime-fighting ex-governor.

But if you pick up Friday’s issue of Entertainment Weekly, you will see that it’s no joke. The cover features an image of a buff cartoon Arnold as “The Governator.”

“When I ran for governor back in 2003 and I started hearing people talking about ‘the Governator,’ I thought the word was so cool,” Schwarzenegger, 63, told the magazine. “The word Governator combined two worlds: the world of politics and the movie world. And [this cartoon] brings everything together. It combines the governor, the Terminator, the bodybuilding world, the ‘True Lies’ …”

The combination TV series-comic book is being co-developed by “Spider-Man” co-creator Lee and is slated to roll out in 2012. Lee promised that not only will the Governator be a great superhero, he will also depict plenty of autobiographical elements from the real action-star-turned-politician’s life.

“We’re using all the personal elements of Arnold’s life. We’re using his wife [Maria Shriver]. We’re using his kids,” said Lee of the semi-fictional character. “We’re using the fact that he used to be governor. Only after he leaves the governor’s office, Arnold decides to become a crime fighter and builds a secret high-tech crime-fighting center under his house in Brentwood.”

In classic crime-fighter fashion, the Governator will have his tricked-out Arnold Cave, along with a fleet of super-vehicles and a closet full of “Super Suits” that allow him to fly and perform super-stunts. He’ll also have some classic sidekicks, including Zeke Muckerberg, a precocious 13-year-old computer whiz who handles the Governator’s cybersecurity.

The best part? A group of recurring super-villains from the organization Gangsters Imposters Racketeers Liars & Irredeemable Ex-Cons (a.k.a. G.I.R.L.I.E. Men, of course).

The magazine has a gallery with images from the comic book, including the chiseled-faced Schwarzenegger in his wide-lapelled superhero costume, a “bubble mask” that uses high-tech gum to create a disguise, an imposing armor outfit with energy blade weapons in the boots, and a sleek superbike that features wheels filled with something called an “animating plasma field.”

Are you pumped up about “The Governator” comic book and animated series? Tell us in the comments.
